Areas in the DFW with clay soils can be problematic for concrete slab foundations. There are many factors which may cause foundation settlement issues such as rain and extreme heat.
Water: When it rains the soils absorb high amounts of water and swells which then creates an uplift for the structure causing damage to concrete foundations.
Heat: When the soil dry and high in temperature it may cause the soil to shrink due to lack of moisture. This will cause the soil to lose contact with the concrete slab foundation and lose the support.
Other Factors: Large trees may also be the cause of foundation settlement issues. Trees absorb moisture and retain water therefore causing the soil under the home to shrink which can cause foundation issues. Plumbing leaks and drainage problems can also cause foundation issues.
